Everything you need to file your GST returns accurately and on time — without the last-minute stress.
Goods and Services Tax compliance can feel overwhelming for small business owners, especially when deadlines pile up. The good news is that with a clear, repeatable process, GST filing becomes routine rather than stressful. This checklist walks you through everything you need to stay compliant in 2025.
1. Keep your invoices organised
Accurate, sequentially numbered tax invoices are the foundation of clean GST returns. Ensure every invoice captures your GSTIN, the customer's GSTIN (for B2B sales), HSN/SAC codes, taxable value and the applicable CGST, SGST or IGST.
Maintain digital copies of both sales and purchase invoices. This makes reconciliation far easier when you file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.
2. Reconcile GSTR-2B before claiming input credit
Input Tax Credit (ITC) can only be claimed on invoices that appear in your auto-generated GSTR-2B. Each month, match your purchase register against GSTR-2B and follow up with suppliers who have not uploaded their invoices.
Claiming credit that isn't reflected in 2B is a common cause of notices and interest demands.
3. Track your filing calendar
GSTR-1 is typically due by the 11th of the following month, while GSTR-3B is generally due by the 20th. Quarterly filers under the QRMP scheme have different timelines. Set reminders a few days ahead so you never miss a deadline.
4. Don't forget annual compliance
Businesses above the prescribed turnover threshold must file the annual return (GSTR-9) and, where applicable, a reconciliation statement. Plan for these well before the year-end rush.
